Is Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD) a Disability?
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) is a condition that affects millions of people worldwide, presenting challenges in various aspects of life. ADD is characterized by persistent difficulties with attention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. These symptoms can manifest differently in children and adults, often leading to problems at school, work, and in personal relationships. Understanding the true impact of ADD is essential for developing effective strategies to manage and cope with the condition. In recent years, there has been an ongoing debate about whether ADD should be classified as a disability.
However, in South Africa, most doctors will diagnose ADHD as a disability. And, if you or your child is diagnosed and receives an ITR-DD form from your medical practitioner, and you have paid income tax, you will qualify for the SARS Disability Tax Rebate.
Over the years, our expertise in the Disability Tax Regulations and our practical experience have primarily benefited parents of autistic children. By optimizing their claims, we have significantly increased the refunds they receive from SARS, making a meaningful difference in their financial circumstances.
Our system is broken into stages.
1. The very first thing we do is ask to see a recent copy of your IRP5.
We need to verify that you have paid tax.
2. Once we have a copy of this document, we will need to confirm that you are registered with SARS as an E-filer. If you are not – we will assist you every step of the way in doing this.
3. Next, you will need an ITR-DD form. We will send you a copy of this form and explain exactly what you need to fill in and what your doctor needs to fill in.
4. When we have a copy of this document on file, we will phone and consult with you, making sure you are aware of the many types of expenses you may have had and checking that every possible expense item has been discussed and covered.
5. We then prepare for an audit – which you will probably have if you are to be paid a refund. This necessitates us checking and filing every invoice, receipt and statement that will be needed.
6. We submit your tax return on time to SARS.
You will have complete access to your Tax File throughout the process.
You may contact us at any time if you have any queries at all.
SARS may ask for additional documents and we will supply these.
Once we have been informed that the process is complete, only then will we send you our invoice fee, which is due once the funds are in your bank account.
The complete process normally takes 21 working days from receipt of the IRP5
